Frequently Asked Questions
Answers to the most common questions about CutServe. If you don't see what you're looking for, email us at cutserve.roundnet@gmail.com.
Having trouble launching?
CutServe requires macOS 12 or later on an Apple Silicon Mac (M1 or newer), or Windows 10 or later. Intel Macs aren't supported. On Windows, if SmartScreen blocks the first launch, click More info, then Run anyway. If you still run into issues, reach out at cutserve.roundnet@gmail.com.
Why is my video not loading in Zone Setup or the editor?
CutServe plays video directly from the original file location; it doesn't copy your footage. If you moved, renamed, or deleted the video file after creating the project, CutServe can no longer find it and shows a "Source video not found" message.<br/><br/>To fix it: move the video back to its original location, or delete the project and reimport from the new location.
What do I do if auto detection missed a bunch of points?
A few missed clips are normal, especially with challenging footage (low angle, partial court view, obstructed zones). Add missed points from the editor: hover the gap between two clips in the filmstrip and click +, or press N.<br/><br/>If detection is consistently poor across a whole video, the most common cause is zones that were too small or drawn on a frame where players weren't in their natural positions. Delete the project, reimport the video, and redraw the zones with more generous coverage. For footage where detection struggles, Manual clipping is often faster.
Can I redo my zones without starting over?
Not currently, zone setup is a one-time step per project. If you need to adjust your zones, the cleanest path is to delete the project and reimport the video. Your original video file is never touched, so nothing is lost.
Processing has been running for a long time. Is it stuck?
Processing time depends on video length and your computer. A one-hour match typically takes 5–15 minutes on an M-series Mac. If the progress has been stuck at the same percentage for more than 10 minutes, close and relaunch CutServe, then restart processing from the dashboard.
Can I use footage from multiple cameras or multiple files?
No, each project takes a single continuous MP4 file. If your match was recorded across multiple files (e.g., your camera split the recording), you'll need to merge them into one file first before importing. A free tool like HandBrake or iMovie can join video files.
Can I import a video from a link instead of a local file?
Yes. Click + New Project, choose From a link, paste a link to footage you've uploaded (unlisted YouTube videos work well), and pick a quality: up to 1080p, 720p or source quality. CutServe downloads it to the folder you choose and continues like a local MP4. Only import footage you have the rights to use.
What is Manual clipping, and how is it different from auto detection?
Manual clipping skips Zone Setup and processing. Instead of the engine finding points for you, you watch the footage and press W when a point starts and S when it ends, at up to 2× speed. Tag the clip and playback picks up where it left off. You choose the mode when you import a video and can't change it later for that project. Everything after clipping (tagging, replays and exports) works the same in both modes.
What happens when I hit my free export limit?
You can keep editing indefinitely. The export limit only prevents rendering the final video. When you try to export after reaching your limit, CutServe will show you how many exports you've used and give you the option to upgrade.
Can I use CutServe offline?
Almost entirely. All video processing and editing happens locally on your computer, with no upload required. You need an internet connection to sign in, to sync your account, and to import from a link. Without a connection, choose Continue as Guest on the sign-in screen to review and tag clips; exporting needs a signed-in account.
Where are my project files stored?
CutServe stores project data in its application folder:<br/>Mac: ~/Library/Application Support/CutServe/<br/>Windows: %APPDATA%\CutServe\<br/>Inside you'll find projects.json (the project index) and a projects/ folder with one subfolder per project, including your clips and highlight reel. You generally don't need to touch these files; use the trash icon on the dashboard to remove projects cleanly.<br/><br/>Don't move or rename files inside the projects folder manually. CutServe tracks files by their expected paths and will lose track of them if they're moved outside the app.
How do I completely reset CutServe and start fresh?
To delete all projects: delete them one by one from the dashboard using the trash icon.<br/><br/>To fully reset the app (including account logout and all data): quit CutServe, delete the application folder listed above, and relaunch. You'll be prompted to log in again, and the project list will be empty.
Does CutServe save my work automatically?
Yes. The editor autosaves every few edits and whenever you leave it, and the Highlight Reel autosaves a few seconds after each change. You can also click Save in the editor's score bar at any time. Undo and redo (⌘Z / ⌘⇧Z on Mac, Ctrl+Z / Ctrl+Shift+Z on Windows) work across your clip edits.
Exports fail on my Mac with "Bad CPU type in executable". What do I do?
Update to CutServe 1.7.2 or later. Earlier versions bundled a tool that only ran on Macs with Rosetta 2 installed. CutServe updates itself automatically; you can also download the latest version from the Download page.
